A sporting opportunity…

Pindar announced on 27th May 2005 an innovative sponsorship deal with Scarborough Rugby Club to improve local facilities and fund a Youth Development Officer to work in the local area.

Pindar has agreed a three-year sponsorship with Scarborough Rugby Club that will help promote male and female rugby throughout the region and enhance sports facilities in the town.

The club is also pleased to announce the support of the Government’s Sportsmatch funding scheme that will match fund the sponsorship from Pindar.

As part of the agreement, Pindar will become the club’s main sponsor and the sponsorship will ensure local children have better access to kit, coaching and support via the appointment of a Youth Development Officer. The RFU-trained officer, Junior Tupai, will work closely with local schools and colleges to encourage more young people to become involved in the sport in the hope of providing a strong pool of future talent for the club.

Andrew Pindar, Chairman of GA Pindar & Son, said:

“Having been born and brought up in Scarborough I feel very passionately about the community in which we live and work. Whilst we will continue to benefit on the international stage from our on-going sponsorship of the British sailor Emma Richards, it is extremely pleasing that we can also be involved in a very worthwhile project closer to home. We are delighted to be associated with Scarborough Rugby Club and we look forward to playing an active role in aiding the development of rugby in the local area over the next three years and beyond.”

Mike Holder, SRUFC Director of Rugby said:

“We are delighted to have Pindar onboard at the Rugby Club and with promotion of the sport at the grass roots level. We are constantly striving to develop and enhance the facilities and coaching for young people in the area and this sponsorship will mean that we will continue to be able to offer quality coaching with an improved infrastructure to a wider range of young people.”
