Pindar Set is celebrating after receiving a significant accolade in the 2007 Green Apple Awards, for their commitment to the environment in the UK.

Pindar Set has received the award from The Green Organisation in recognition of their carbon offset programme in the UK.

Pindar was presented with the prestigious accolade (after stiff competition from more than 750 nominations) by botanist and TV personality Professor David Bellamy OBE at The House of Commons.

"To receive recognition from The Green Organisation for our commitment to environmental best practice is a fantastic achievement;" explains Andrew Pindar, Chairman of Pindar. "As a global company, we have a responsibility to play a prominent role in helping to look after the planet and this is a great example of good practice to the rest of the organisation as we drive forward our environmental improvement strategy."

The judging panel commented; "Constantly striving to reduce their carbon footprint, Pindar Set has now got their performance up to a level where offsetting became a serious option. A further push to get staff to turn off equipment and generally boost awareness has also improved their performance further."

The Pindar Set approach to controlling the production of carbon was to use an awareness campaign aimed at reduction, re-use and recycling. Once this approach has been taken the remaining carbon generated was off-set.

The carbon offsetting involved calculating emissions for the previous 12 months and putting them through a carbon calculator to get a total, and therefore a cost.

Pindar Set used the carbon business calculator supplied by Climate Care, an environmentally focused organisation who invest in environmental improvement programs around the world. One clear benefit of this type of project is that we can rest assured that our money is going directly to schemes aimed at carbon reduction.

The Pindar organisation has also recently announced an innovative partnership with Earthwatch, one of the world's leading environmental organisations, as part of a far-reaching change management programme that will benefit its employees, customers and suppliers across the world.

The Green Apple Awards campaign is run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world. Their supporters include the Environment Agency and The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management.

Pindar Set has worked with its customer Yell since 1979 in the processing of advertisements. From advert creation to pre-press and customer services, Pindar Set constantly innovates in improvements and technology to help Yell in the UK, Yellow Book in the USA and Yell Publicidad in Spain benefit from having more time to sell their products and services.
