Financial Highlights

Annual Report 2005

Best ever results

In 2005, the Group achieved it's best ever results, with turnover of £109m (2004: £103.9m) and pre tax profit of £4.9m (2004: loss £0.9m). This makes four successive years of operating profits in excess of £6m and underlines the wisdom of the rationalisation and re-organisation undertaken over the two years 2000-2002.

The previous financial year had a major write down of investment.  This year has had us back on track with a 5% increase in operating profit which resulted in a pre tax number of £4.88m.

Flowing from this was a 24% increase in shareholders funds, a 21% increase in net assets and a 25% reduction in our gearing. The Group repeated the capital expenditure as the prior year of £8.4m, again showing the commitment of the business to investment in our strategy and future prosperity.

Giving something back

The company is heavily involved in supporting the success and growth of the local community in the UK and US. Pindar funds Scary Guy who helps to improve emotional intelligence in schools, and has sponsorship deal with the Scarborough Rugby Club to fund a Youth Development Officer to develop junior rugby, in and around the Scarborough area.

In the US, AlphaGraphics owners contribute to their communities in a variety of ways including volunteerism, donation of services and support for local charities. A special AlphaGraphics Hurricane Katrina fund was established raising more that $54,000.

In all these ways, the Pindar business around the world tries to make a difference to the communities in which they operate.

The year ahead

The budget highlights for the year ahead call for a near 10% increase in our pre tax profits on sales anticipated to be up by about 6%. Capital expenditure is planned to be increased by 20% whilst we have budget to acquire businesses which will enhance our range of services and profitability.

We design, create, gather and manage content like no other company in the world. This has been our fundamental point of difference as a company over the last forty years and it is our plan to continue this focus of effort in the future. We will achieve this by organic growth and acquisition.
