Business Basics for Budding Entrepreneurs

Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide seeks to educate and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy.  JA programs serve grades 1-12, focusing on the key content areas of entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy.

AlphaGraphics owners across the US are working with JA to share their professional successes, challenges and know-how with community kids.

By partnering with JA, AlphaGraphics volunteers bring relevancy and reality into the classroom, giving life to the importance of what students are learning in school. JA offers turnkey programs that make it easy and fun for volunteers to positively impact children in the communities where they work and live. Of course the benefits run both ways.

"Junior Achievement is a great way for business professionals to get involved in schools," says AlphaGraphics Business Center owner and JA volunteer Jodi Pierce.

"Kids are a tough audience. If you can interest kids in what you are talking about, then you can certainly interest clients."

Sponsorship of local Rugby Club

Pindar continues to sponsor Scarborough Rugby Club with the aim of promoting male and female rugby throughout the region and enhancing sports facilities in the town.

The sponsorship has helped ensure local children have better access to kit, coaching and support including the original appointment and ongoing work of a Youth Development Officer. The RFU-trained officer works closely with local schools and colleges to encourage more young people to become involved in the sport in the hope of providing a strong pool of future talent for the club.

All primary and secondary schools have been given the opportunity for pupils to receive training sessions and there are now 10 schools and over 100 students taking part in the sessions and series of rugby festivals held throughout the year.
With Pindar's sponsorship the Club has also benefited in being able to improve and expand the facilities that the club can offer.

Mike Holder, SRUFC Director of Rugby said:

"We are delighted to have Pindar onboard at the Rugby Club and with promotion of the sport at the grass roots level. We are constantly striving to develop and enhance the facilities and coaching for young people in the area and this sponsorship will mean that we will continue to be able to offer quality coaching with an improved infrastructure to a wider range of young people."

Scary Guy

Pindar funded a unique educational initiative aimed at improving performance and behaviour amongst children in schools around the local area. The initiative is centred on the recruitment of "Scary Guy", an innovative motivational speaker who has pioneered the teaching of emotional intelligence.

The programme aims to minimise the number of schools with serious social problems as well as reducing the number of exclusions and the amount of crime. It is an initiative that will have a positive impact throughout the Scarborough community.
Pindar was introduced to Scary Guy through Hugh Bellamy, Headteacher of Pindar School.  Pindar School has witnessed dramatic results. One student's life was totally transformed - from being depressed and close to suicide to becoming an ambassador for the project, mentoring other students.

With the support from the Company, it meant that Scary Guy could work with all the secondary schools in the town and undertake sessions with the aim of improving levels of behavioural and communication skills.

Scary Guy, an innovative motivational speaker, is an "Agent for Change" who has worked with over five million people around the world promoting peace, tolerance, love and acceptance of all people, through his mission of "Eliminating hate, violence and prejudice worldwide".

Company yacht works with Community Boating Center

In the states AlphaGraphics and Pindar worked alongside the Community Boating Center in Rhode Island, which is a non-profit, recreational organization offering all members of the community an opportunity to sail. One of the events we hosted was a hands-on learning activity day for youth sailors and free public youth tours of our 50 ft racing yacht, 'Pindar AlphaGraphics' in Providence.

John O'Flaherty, Executive Director of CBC commented: "Community Boating is honored to host this impressive racing yacht. We greatly appreciate the generosity and expertise of team Pindar in helping provide engaging after-school programming to Providence inner-city youth."
