Your guide to BT Vision

Working with Williams Lea on behalf of BT Vision to help launch and then develop their bi monthly ‘On’ magazine, from first winning the account through to the current A5 product has been a rewarding experience.

Before the launch in October 2007 we were involved in suggesting the most economic combination of trim size and pagination that has helped BT Retail have a unique product in the marketplace. BT Vision

We also provide the high quality paper stock that we obtain from our select band of Paper Mills at extremely competitive rates due to our buying power.

We won the work because we could demonstrate paper savings and economies of scale to the customer and then match what we said we could deliver. Skills within our sales team, which in this case included an in depth estimating knowledge, as well as dedicated account management team, helped us to very swiftly demonstrate how BT Vision could maximise the value of their print budget.

Investment in our presses which included our Lithoman III short grain web press has played a key part in helping to create a different looking product using a 245mm x 210mm format. Closed loop colour management improves our speed of make ready and ensures a more accurate match between customer expectation and the finished product.

BT Retail have been very pleased with the beautiful cover finishes achieved, using our Speedmaster XL105 cover press. We are one of only a handful of printers in the UK to offer customers printing and finishing in one pass. The one pass service has helped us to provide covers for ‘On’ magazine to a consistently high standard and it reduces schedule time.

The product is perfect bound on our 10 station Corona binder which effectively finish products ranging from those just over the minimum spine width like ‘On’ magazine to large catalogues requiring PUR.

Pindar also provides the mailing and fulfilment services for ‘On’ magazine, which has increased to approximately 250k copies since launch. By keeping these solutions in house, we can be more flexible with the schedule we offer and this has allowed BT to reduce harmful transport emissions.

Latest developments include a change in format to an A5 perfect bound product. Naturally this reduces mailing costs related to size and continues to maximise paper efficiencies as this format suits our two long grain 48pp presses.

We have demonstrated our strengths using both our short grain and long grain web presses, our new B1 cover press with in-line finishing, and our mailing capabilities.  From our perspective this is a striking looking product of which we are very proud.

Feedback has been very positive from Williams Lea and BT. The professional expertise we can offer from our Commercial and Pre Press colleagues has been well received and we look forward to working on future issues of such a great magazine.
