Pindar is embarking on a far-reaching change management programme launched as 'Respect the Planet', with sustainability at its heart. Environmental management has already become an integral part of the way we do business but we need to move beyond current levels of social action and compliance.
Climate change is the most serious threat facing our planet today. It is an issue which employees, suppliers, customers and key opinion formers can respond to and so should be an integral part of our Corporate Social Responsibility plans.
In keeping with our core business value we are already demonstrating in very tangible ways that we respect the environment. And as a fourth generation, family owned business, we know about sustainability and the need to invest time and resources for the benefit of future generations.
In November 2007 we were delighted that the Earthwatch Institute agreed to work with us for the next three years to support our environmental change management programme. We are also supporting them in their pioneering Sustainable Oceans programme through our Team Pindar sailing team.
We are currently in the first stage of our programme - auditing our existing activities and ensuring that across the business we have achieved the key standards required. Once this is complete we will move into the second stage of setting out our goals in a Respect the Planet charter and implementing appropriate activities.
However, I'd like to go even further and, with the help of our employees and looking at ways of partnering with our customers and suppliers, I believe we can achieve great things.
