Printed page is "greener" than online browsing claims papermakerhttp://www.pindar.com/en/news--events/printed-page-is-greener-than-online-browsing-claims-papermaker.aspx@updateDatehttp://www.pindar.com/en/news--events/printed-page-is-greener-than-online-browsing-claims-papermaker.aspxReading the news online has a more negative effect on global warming than reading a printed copy according to one of the world's leading papermakers. In recent tests comparing the printed page against its internet counterpart Torraspapel has found that newspapers and textbooks scored far higher when it comes to sustainability.

According to the Spanish Company's findings, published in their third sustainability brochure Paper: the alternative to climate change, "reading a newspaper has a lower impact on global warming than reading news online for 30 minutes". The findings also suggest that "Teaching with textbooks printed on paper contributes to global warming 10 times less than the use of electronic teaching aids".

Torraspapel argue that the production of paper helps to lessen the effect of climate change by capturing Carbon Dioxide inside the paper's fibres and reducing emissions in the manufacturing process. It also states that paper's ability to be recycled several times after use and the fact that it can then be turned into bio fuel once it is no longer suitable for recycling means it is a far more sustainable product than its less environmentally friendly competitors.

Paper: the alternative to climate change is available in English, Spanish and French and can be downloaded from Torraspapel's website www.torraspael.com
