Ball Colegrave is a wholesale
distributor of seeds and plants to commercial growers and local
authorities. Pindar has been producing catalogues for Ball
Colegrave since 2002 and this year printed three of their five
annual catalogues.
As in previous years Ball Colegrave did the majority of their own
design and page make-up for the 2010 Plant Catalogue, Seed
Catalogue and Vegetable Catalogue, however Pindar offered an
overflow capacity at their design studios in Kineton near Warwick
to help with busy periods to ensure that the matching print
deadline for the three catalogues was met. Pindar's customer
service team were on hand to offer technical support throughout the
entire catalogue production process and the catalogues were then
printed at the sheet-fed facility in Preston.
For both Pindar and Ball Colegrave precision timing was a critical
factor when planning their workloads. The catalogues were
required to be printed and delivered in time for the Annual Summer
Open Days hosted by Ball Colegrave. Pindar had to work to a
tight print schedule to ensure this deadline was met. Ball
Colegrave had to work to a similarly tight schedule to ensure that
all their plants and flowers were in bloom at the right time.
At their annual summer open days Ball Colegrave welcome customers,
press and gardening societies to view a spectacle of colour with
what is undoubtedly the most exciting and innovative presentation
of its kind in the UK. Eight acres of grounds demonstrate a most
diverse range of annual and perennial varieties in display gardens,
pots, patio baskets and containers. And with at least 200 new
varieties being introduced and displayed every year for the
following season, there is plenty for all to see! It is
imperative that all plants and flowers are at bloom at the same
time.
Formerly known as Colegrave Seeds, the company was founded in 1962
and quickly became a shining example of a supreme family owned
horticultural business that grew from a humble garage operation in
the village of West Adderbury selling packets of flower seeds to
growers, to becoming the UK's largest supplier of flower seed and
plants to commercial growers and local authorities. In 2001
The David Colegrave Group merged with Ball Horticultural and
together they went on to deliver an even greater level of service
and products to growers, retailers and local authorities in the
UK.
Ball Colegrave is now supported by a strong team of breeders
across the world producing the most commercially viable and
innovative plants the industry has ever seen. The company
prides itself in its innovation, service and support to its
customers and the whole ornamental bedding plant industry.
For future catalogue productions Pindar and Ball Colegrave are
investigating the option of applying hi-fi colour - for extended
colour space printing which is particularly suitable for the colour
requirements of these catalogues.
