Suzy Bashford, writing in 'Marketing' magazine, believes that
catalogues are booming within the retail sector as they
increasingly become an essential branding tool in their own
right.
Suzy argues that a growing tendency to move towards more editorial
content rather than simply listing product details has lead to the
birth of the so-called 'magalogue'. These magalogues have the
ability to inspire and engage the customer much deeper than
previous catalogues were able to.
The catalogue is also increasingly being used to act as a
conversation starter for people discussing what to buy, and as a
reference guide, particularly for high priced items. By acting as a
first point of contact with the customer, retailers can deliver the
brand personality that is required in order to push people online
to buy.
