To demonstrate our commitment and interest in New Zealand publishing and book design Pindar NZ have sponsored a new awards category in the ‘Publishers Association of New Zealand’s Book Design Awards 2009’.
The award ceremony was held on Thursday, 3rd September at the Auckland Art Gallery Art Lounge. Gerard Reid, Mary Egan and Paul Carter represented Pindar NZ at the presentation which was also attended by many recognized Publishing Directors.
The G.A. Pindar & Son Award for Best Typography was presented to Sarah Maxey for her work on a new edition of ‘How to Look at a Painting’ by Justin Paton (Awa Press, 2008). The judges commented on how crucial good typography is to a book’s readability and commended Maxey’s work as subtle and expert. Mary Egan, possibly the most experienced and skilled book designer in New Zealand and the operations and art director for Pindar NZ, announced the winner by roundly endorsing the judges’ decision, ‘I’m happy to say it’s Sarah Maxey!’
