 Creating Stunning Covers 1

Since the installation of the XL105 our cover press at Preston continues to delight a wide range of customers with the finishes that we have been able to create for them on their covers.

The cover press is great for colour critical work and particularly important for our customers in retail, mail order and customer magazine publishing, but also increasingly important for manufacturing and distribution companies where good looking catalogues and brochures increase the desire to buy.

Many successful covers have been produced recently using the various coatings including Filippo Berio ‘Winter Recipes’ and ‘Perfect Potatoes’, BT Vision magazine, Holiday Cottages, The White Company, Cotswold and Frontline Bathrooms.

The cover press is more flexible than its predecessor as it can produce a range of different covers of varying thicknesses.

One big advantage is the range of finishes that can be applied including Gloss UV, Matt UV, Spot UV varnishes in the same pass through the machine. This has significantly reduced the amount of finishing artwork required and so the customer only has to do the one press pass to see the finished article.

Non UV aqueous coatings can be applied to offer protection to the printed material underneath and help enhance the appearance of print finishes including gloss, matt and silk coatings. The coatings remove the ‘doubt’ sometimes experienced with potential marking and work can be turned around quicker.

Creating Stunning Covers 2Other sealers and varnishes, as well as Pantone colours, can be applied using one of the 6 printing units.

Make readies are quick and accurate using the Heidelberg Image Control colour management systems and allows detailed analysis of the print produced, is fully compliant with the ISO 12647-2 colour standard. We can produce stable print at high speeds while keeping IPA (alcohol) levels down to just 3%.

We have conducted tests of the cover press’ capability over the year and this included a recent trial of Metal FX printing with which the customer was delighted.

Nicola Jackson, Design and Marketing Specialist from Metal FX® Technology comments; “Pindar created a variety of Metal FX® covers for the press trial, utilising techniques that enhanced the products and added depth and dimension to the printed page. I would highly recommend Pindar as a licensed printer for Metal FX® technology.”
