Learning resource centre

At Pindar we believe delivering the educational needs of employees is part of our drive to be recognised as an employer of choice. We have implemented a number of initiatives to provide opportunities for our staff to further their careers, which is fundamental to both individual and business success. We believe that encouraging a lifetime learning approach will help to fulfil the business needs enabling Pindar to continue to innovate and deliver service excellence to our customers.
To demonstrate our commitment to employee training and development, sponsored by Premier Paper Group, Pindar opened a technologically advanced learning resource centre in 2004. The centre opening reflected a year of dedicated planning, encouraging a lifetime learning approach for employees.

By developing the learning resource centre Pindar has provided the opportunity for many employees to achieve positive learning outcomes. Pindar employees carrying out online City & Guilds training across all departments within the business, have the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications. We continually have employees at various stages of completing  National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ). In addition to young people participating in our apprenticeship programme, we also encourage and have a number of adult employees working towards NVQ and other qualifications.

When not used for online training the resource centre is fully utilised as a learning environment for the delivering of new employee inductions, safety training courses, IT courses and general occupational skills courses.

The focal point of the resource centre is a copy of the apprenticeship indentures of George Arthur Pindar dated 29th January 1869. During the decades that have followed the signing of these indentures, the skills required to work in the printing industry may have changed however, the Pindar commitment to employee training and development has not.

Skills for life programme
During 2004 Pindar announced an industry education partnership with Pindar School to deliver a multitude of ‘skills for life’ courses at its learning resource centre.

Pindar opened the technologically advanced learning resource centre, following a year of dedicated planning, encouraging a lifetime learning approach for employees. In response to an internal questionnaire forwarded by Pindar’s Learning Representatives, employees asked for a range of courses from Spanish, French, DIY and IT, through to subjects such as Welsh, Chinese Mandarin and Sign Language. The partnership with Pindar School will facilitate the delivery of these and future learning requests.

At Pindar we have implemented a number of initiatives to provide opportunities for staff to further their careers and believe that encouraging a lifetime learning approach will help to fulfil the business needs to innovate and deliver service excellence to customers. As a company, we believe that Pindar School has done an excellent job of finding tutors for every one of the subjects in our learning needs survey and we are thrilled to facilitate the learning needs of our employees as we continue to differentiate ourselves and ultimately, offer a great place to work.

At the announcement of the partnership Joanna Oxtoby, Pindar School said, “The learning centre and the provision of non-work related learning opportunities is a positive indicator of the learning culture Pindar is trying to promote. Finding a creative approach to deliver these learning experiences has been an enjoyable challenge as Pindar operates a 24-hour business operation and associated shift patterns”.
